Nia Saw has been part of the world famous band, "Zap Mama" since 1997, and is the second longest member of the group. Zap Mama has worked with various artists such as Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common, Tony Allen, Ladysmith Black Mambazo,
Sergio Mendes etc...
and Nia's vocals are featured on 4 Zap Mama albums, on which she has co-written several songs.
Nia also organises after-school music clubs, workshops, and classes for children with a focus on introduction to music and singing in a playful way, using tradtional techniques and songs from around the world.
Their music has been used for several soundtracks including "Mission Impossible", and "Brothers And Sisters. Their fans include, Herbie Hancock,
Stevie Wonder, and Al Jarreau.
They have been nominated for a Grammy Award, featured in a BBC documentary, performed on CNBC, as well as "Late Night TV" with Craig Ferguson. The American news channel CNN did a special feature on the band, and Zap Mama are also regulars at the famous Hollywood Bowl (Los Angeles), and Fillmore East in San Francisco.
In between touring and recording, Nia teaches A Cappella workshops. The A Cappella singing classes function as mini workshops and are aimed at singers of different levels, beginners and advanced. It includes vocal technique, phrasing, rhythm, polyphonic vocals, harmony and improvisation.
The repertoire used consists of Zap Mama songs, adaptation of traditional African Songs and Gospel songs.
